In the 1948 pic I'm the one standing next to the master (whose name I forget). The other wearing a leather jacket is John McNamara, he came from Ruislip, the second from the left on the bottom row is Brian Towers from Liverpool. We were all boarders.

The 1946 pic I'm third from the left on the third row (from the front). Next to me is ??? Smith (a great footballer and cricketer). Right in the middle of the back row is Paul D. Atkinson from Leeds. On the extreme right of the front row is Tony Bottomley. He lives here on the Island and has just retired from running our National Sports Complex. Next to him is, I think, John White. Again all boarders. I'm fairly sure this class was the preparatory class before the 11 plus exam.

Update 2009 Around 2005 I was able, through this site to meet up with Brian Towers (see his 'Old Boy' entry) after loosing touch with him for over fifty years. We were boarders together and in the same form. He came to DLS after loosing his mother and father in the Liverpool blitz. After DLS and university he did his National Service before entering academia. We had hoped to meet up again after his move to Southport in retirement but it was not to be. -RIP.
